Reflecting on Leadership Competencies — And What Comes Next
Welcome to Monthly Best Praxis, Talent Praxis's newsletter dedicated to sharing actionable insights and proven strategies for leadership development. Each month, we dive into key topics and competencies that help leaders drive performance, align teams, and create lasting impact.
Over the past year, we explored a series of leadership competencies that focused on how leaders inspire, align, influence, and guide teams toward shared success. These competencies emphasized that leadership is not simply a title or personality trait—it is a set of observable behaviors that shape culture, direction, trust, and performance.

From Leadership Competencies to Management Competencies
While each competency stands on its own, together they reinforce an important idea: leadership is fundamentally about inspiring people toward shared goals through intentional behaviors.
At Talent Praxis, we intentionally separate leadership and management competencies to help leaders develop both skill sets more strategically. Leadership focuses on inspiring people, shaping direction, and influencing culture, while management focuses on the practical execution and coordination of people, processes, resources, and work. The most effective leaders practice both.
Management competencies are often overlooked in leadership development, yet they directly influence execution, accountability, team performance, and day-to-day employee experience. Leaders do not build trust and performance through vision alone—they also build it through how they manage situations, support people, communicate expectations, and adapt their approach to achieve results.
As we transition into the next portion of the Monthly Best Praxis series, we’ll begin focusing on management competencies—the observable behaviors that help leaders execute effectively through people, projects, and processes.
In the coming months, we’ll explore competencies such as:
Adapts Approach to the Situation
Establishes Clear Expectations
Delivers and Receives Impactful Feedback
Delegates Effectively
Develops and Coaches Others
Strategic Hiring and Workforce Planning
Manages Performance and Accountability
Optimizes Resource Allocation
Leads Projects with Clarity and Execution
Creates Feedback Loops for Continuous Improvement
Strong leadership requires more than vision and inspiration. It also requires the ability to execute consistently, support people effectively, and coordinate work intentionally. The leaders who create the strongest organizations are the ones who develop both leadership and management competencies.
Thank you for following along with this series so far. We’re excited to continue exploring the practical behaviors that help leaders and organizations succeed.
